ROAD THROUGH GREECE: A JOURNEY FULL OF MAGIC AND ADVENTURE
STARTING POINT: THESSALONIKI
Our Greek adventure began in Thessaloniki, a vibrant city rich in history and bustling nightlife. After a hearty Greek breakfast, we hit the road for our first stop: Edessa.
EDESSA: A TOUCH OF WATERFALL MAGIC
Edessa, known for its impressive waterfalls, was our first stop. Although we were only there briefly, the roaring waterfalls and refreshing mist left a lasting impression. A short walk along the waterfalls gave us the perfect opportunity to take out the camera and capture the beauty of this place.
KASTORIA: THREE NIGHTS BY THE LAKE
Next, we headed to Kastoria, where we spent three nights. This picturesque town by Lake Orestiada enchanted us with its Byzantine charm. We wandered through the narrow streets, visited numerous churches, and enjoyed the tranquility of the lakeshore. A boat ride at sunset offered an unparalleled view of the town and the surrounding mountains, a highlight of our stay.
PRESPA NATIONAL PARK: A DAY TRIP INTO NATURE'S PARADISE
From Kastoria, we took a day trip to Prespa National Park. This pristine natural paradise, home to numerous bird species, is perfect for nature lovers. We hiked along scenic trails, observed pelicans and other birds, and were mesmerized by the peace and beauty of the landscape.
METEORA: TWO NIGHTS AMONG NATURE'S SKYSCRAPERS
Our journey continued to Meteora, where we spent two nights. The famous monasteries perched on high sandstone pillars are a must-see. We explored several monasteries, enjoyed breathtaking views, and were inspired by the spiritual atmosphere. The sunset over Meteora was a special highlight that we will not soon forget.
IOANNINA: THREE NIGHTS IN THE HEART OF EPIRUS
In Ioannina, we spent three nights. The city, located on the shores of Lake Pamvotida, is charming with its old town and imposing fortress. A stroll through the old town's narrow streets and a visit to the small island in the lake are highly recommended. Here, we enjoyed traditional Greek cuisine in cozy tavernas and delved into the region's history.
VIKOS GORGE: A DAY TRIP INTO ADVENTURE
A day trip took us to the Vikos Gorge, one of the deepest gorges in the world. The hike along the gorge was challenging, but the breathtaking views and wild beauty of nature rewarded our efforts. The camera was in constant use, as every angle offered a new, spectacular photo opportunity.
LEFKADA: FOUR NIGHTS IN PARADISE
After so much adventure, we longed for a bit of relaxation and sun. Lefkada, a beautiful island in the Ionian Sea, offered us just that. We spent four nights here, enjoying the stunning beaches, turquoise waters, and relaxed atmosphere. A highlight was visiting Porto Katsiki Beach, considered one of the most beautiful beaches in Greece.
NAFPLIO: FIVE NIGHTS IN GREECE'S FIRST CAPITAL
Our journey continued to Nafplio, where we stayed for five nights. The city, once the first capital of modern Greece, impressed us with its historic old town, the imposing Palamidi fortress, and the picturesque harbor promenade. We wandered through the romantic streets, visited museums, and soaked in the charm of this lovely city.
MYCENAE AND EPIDAURUS: HISTORICAL DAY TRIPS
From Nafplio, we took day trips to the historical sites of Mycenae and Epidaurus. In Mycenae, we explored the ruins of the ancient city and the famous Lion Gate. Epidaurus impressed us with its well-preserved ancient theater, renowned for its exceptional acoustics. These trips were a journey into the past, offering fascinating insights into Greek history.
CORINTH: A DAY TRIP TO ANCIENT WONDERS
Another day trip took us to Corinth, where we visited the ancient ruins and the impressive Corinth Canal. The blend of ancient history and modern engineering made this trip particularly interesting.
ARACHOVA: TWO NIGHTS IN A MOUNTAIN VILLAGE
The journey took us next to Arachova, a charming mountain village at the foot of the Parnassus mountains, where we stayed for two nights. Arachova is known for its traditional stone houses and its proximity to the famous ski resort. Though it was summer, we enjoyed the fresh mountain air and breathtaking views.
DELPHI: A DAY TRIP TO THE NAVEL OF THE WORLD
A day trip from Arachova brought us to Delphi, one of Greece's most significant archaeological sites. Visiting the Oracle of Delphi, the Temple of Apollo, and the ancient theater was an unforgettable experience. The history and mystique of this place captivated us.
GALAXIDI: A PICTURESQUE DAY TRIP
Another day trip took us to Galaxidi, a picturesque coastal village on the Gulf of Corinth. The charming houses, cozy tavernas, and relaxed atmosphere made this trip a perfect day out.
PILION: ONE NIGHT IN THE GARDEN OF THE GODS
After Arachova, we continued to the Pelion region, where we spent one night. Known as the Garden of the Gods, this region is characterized by lush vegetation, traditional villages, and beautiful beaches. We explored the small mountain villages and enjoyed the peace and beauty of the area.
PARELIA AND KATERINI: FOUR NIGHTS OF RELAXATION
In Parelia, we spent four nights. This quiet spot was the perfect place to unwind and let our souls rest. We enjoyed the beaches, took long walks, and experienced the hospitality of the locals.
OLYMPUS AND DION: DAY TRIPS TO THE GODS
From Parelia, we took day trips to Mount Olympus and the archaeological site of Dion. Mount Olympus, Greece's highest mountain, impressed us with its majestic presence. In Dion, we explored the ruins of the ancient city and were fascinated by the history of this sacred place.
PANTELEIMONAS: A HISTORICAL DAY TRIP
Another day trip took us to Panteleimonas, a traditional village at the foot of Mount Olympus. The narrow streets, old stone houses, and magnificent views made this trip a special experience.
RETURN TO THESSALONIKI
After all these adventures, we finally returned to Thessaloniki. This road trip through Greece was an unforgettable experience, filled with breathtaking landscapes, rich history, and warm hospitality. Each place had its own charm and stories to tell, and we are grateful for the many wonderful memories we made on this journey. Greece enchanted us with its diversity and beauty, and we are already looking forward to the next adventure in this fascinating country.
